NEW DATA ON SOUTHERN EUBOEAN LANDSCAPES: RESULTS OF THE NORWEGIAN ARCHAEOLOGICAL SURVEY IN THE KARYSTIA

We present the results of a diachronic survey Katsaronio plain in Karystia, southern Euboea, Greece. The project was organised under aegis Norwegian Institute at Athens with permit from Hellenic Ministry Culture official name Archaeological Survey Karystia. Five years fieldwork (2012–16) covered an area 20km 2 large agricultural located about 5km north-west town Karystos. identified 99 new findspots range dates spanning Final Neolithic to Early Modern times. Here we collected prehistoric through Roman data, which represent bulk acquired evidence. One notable features assemblage is vast quantity lithics that were recovered, numbering over 9000 and consisting mainly obsidian. Certain periods absent evidence, such as post-Early Bronze Age Geometric, while others represented varying intensity. offer initial interpretation patterns observable evidence attempt reconstruct past use habitation this part Euboea.
